[1] וּפְלִשְׁתִּים נִלְחָמִים בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל וַיָּנֻסוּ אַנְשֵׁי יִשְׂרָאֵל מִפְּנֵי פְלִשְׁתִּים וַיִּפְּלוּ חֲלָלִים בְּהַר הַגִּלְבֹּעַ ׃

[1] Bấy giờ dân Phi-li-tin giao chiến cùng Y-sơ-ra-ên; người Y-sơ-ra-ên chạy trốn trước mặt dân Phi-li-tin, và nhiều người trong bọn bị vít chết, ngã xuống trên núi Ghinh-bô-a.
[1] Now the Philistines were fighting against Israel. The men of Israel fled from the Philistines and many of them fell dead on Mount Gilboa.

[2] וַיַּדְבְּקוּ פְלִשְׁתִּים אֶת־שָׁאוּל וְאֶת־בָּנָיו וַיַּכּוּ פְלִשְׁתִּים אֶת־יְהוֹנָתָן וְאֶת־אֲבִינָדָב וְאֶת־מַלְכִּי־שׁוּעַ בְּנֵי שָׁאוּל ׃

[2] Dân Phi-li-tin hăng rượt theo Sau-lơ cùng con trai người, giết Giô-na-than, A-bi-na-đáp, và Manh-ki-sua, là các con trai của Sau-lơ.
[2] The Philistines stayed right on the heels of Saul and his sons. They struck down Saul’s sons Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malki-Shua.

[3] וַתִּכְבַּד הַמִּלְחָמָה אֶל־שָׁאוּל וַיִּמְצָאֻהוּ הַמּוֹרִים אֲנָשִׁים בַּקָּשֶׁת וַיָּחֶל מְאֹד מֵהַמּוֹרִים ׃

[3] Thế trận dữ dội cho Sau-lơ; những lính cầm cung bắn trúng người, làm cho trọng thương.
[3] Saul himself was in the thick of the battle; the archers spotted him and wounded him severely.

[4] וַיֹּאמֶר שָׁאוּל לְנֹשֵׂא כֵלָיו שְׁלֹף חַרְבְּךָ וְדָקְרֵנִי בָהּ פֶּן־יָבוֹאוּ הָעֲרֵלִים הָאֵלֶּה וּדְקָרֻנִי וְהִתְעַלְּלוּ־בִי וְלֹא אָבָה נֹשֵׂא כֵלָיו כִּי יָרֵא מְאֹד וַיִּקַּח שָׁאוּל אֶת־הַחֶרֶב וַיִּפֹּל עָלֶיהָ ׃

[4] Sau-lơ nói cùng kẻ vác binh khí mình rằng: Hãy rút gươm ngươi, đâm ta đi, kẻo những kẻ không chịu cắt bì kia đến đâm ta và sỉ nhục ta chăng. Nhưng kẻ vác binh khí người không dám làm, vì sợ hãi lắm. Sau-lơ bèn lấy gươm và sấn mình trên mũi nó.
[4] Saul said to his armor bearer, “Draw your sword and stab me with it! Otherwise these uncircumcised people will come, stab me, and torture me.” But his armor bearer refused to do it, because he was very afraid. So Saul took his sword and fell on it.

[5] וַיַּרְא נֹשֵׂא־כֵלָיו כִּי מֵת שָׁאוּל וַיִּפֹּל גַּם־הוּא עַל־חַרְבּוֹ וַיָּמָת עִמּוֹ ׃

[5] Khi kẻ vác binh khí của Sau-lơ thấy người chết, bèn cũng sấn mình trên mũi gươm mình mà chết với người.
[5] When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his own sword and died with him.

[6] וַיָּמָת שָׁאוּל וּשְׁלֹשֶׁת בָּנָיו וְנֹשֵׂא כֵלָיו גַּם כָּל־אֲנָשָׁיו בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא יַחְדָּו ׃

[6] Như vậy, trong ngày đó, Sau-lơ, ba con trai người, kẻ vác binh khí người, và hết thảy kẻ theo người đều chết chung với nhau.
[6] So Saul, his three sons, his armor bearer, and all his men died together that day.

[7] וַיִּרְאוּ אַנְשֵׁי־יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר־בְּעֵבֶר הָעֵמֶק וַאֲשֶׁר בְּעֵבֶר הַיַּרְדֵּן כִּי־נָסוּ אַנְשֵׁי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְכִי־מֵתוּ שָׁאוּל וּבָנָיו וַיַּעַזְבוּ אֶת־הֶעָרִים וַיָּנֻסוּ וַיָּבֹאוּ פְלִשְׁתִּים וַיֵּשְׁבוּ בָּהֶן ׃ ס

[7] Những người Y-sơ-ra-ên ở bên kia trũng và bên kia sông Giô-đanh, thấy đạo binh Y-sơ-ra-ên chạy trốn, Sau-lơ và ba con trai người đã chết, thì bỏ các thành mình mà trốn đi; nên nỗi dân Phi-li-tin đến ở đó.
[7] When the men of Israel who were in the valley and across the Jordan saw that the men of Israel had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned the cities and fled. The Philistines came and occupied them.

[8] וַיְהִי מִמָּחֳרָת וַיָּבֹאוּ פְלִשְׁתִּים לְפַשֵּׁט אֶת־הַחֲלָלִים וַיִּמְצְאוּ אֶת־שָׁאוּל וְאֶת־שְׁלֹשֶׁת בָּנָיו נֹפְלִים בְּהַר הַגִּלְבֹּעַ ׃

[8] Ngày sau, dân Phi-li-tin đến lục soát những kẻ chết, thấy Sau-lơ và ba con trai người nằm sải trên núi Ghinh-bô-a.
[8] The next day, when the Philistines came to strip loot from the corpses, they discovered Saul and his three sons lying dead on Mount Gilboa.

[9] וַיִּכְרְתוּ אֶת־רֹאשׁוֹ וַיַּפְשִׁיטוּ אֶת־כֵּלָיו וַיְשַׁלְּחוּ בְאֶרֶץ־פְּלִשְׁתִּים סָבִיב לְבַשֵּׂר בֵּית עֲצַבֵּיהֶם וְאֶת־הָעָם ׃

[9] Chúng cắt đầu Sau-lơ, lột lấy binh khí người, và sai báo tin tốt nầy cho khắp xứ dân Phi-li-tin, trong các đền thờ của thần tượng họ và trong cả dân sự.
[9] They cut off Saul’s head and stripped him of his armor. They sent messengers to announce the news in the temple of their idols and among their people throughout the surrounding land of the Philistines.

[10] וַיָּשִׂמוּ אֶת־כֵּלָיו בֵּית עַשְׁתָּרוֹת וְאֶת־גְּוִיָּתוֹ תָּקְעוּ בְּחוֹמַת בֵּית שָׁן ׃

[10] Chúng để binh khí của Sau-lơ tại trong đền thờ Át-tạt-tê, và treo xác người vào tường thành Bết-san.
[10] They placed Saul’s armor in the temple of the Ashtoreths and hung his corpse on the city wall of Beth Shan.

[11] וַיִּשְׁמְעוּ אֵלָיו יֹשְׁבֵי יָבֵישׁ גִּלְעָד אֵת אֲשֶׁר־עָשׂוּ פְלִשְׁתִּים לְשָׁאוּל ׃

[11] Nhưng khi dân sự Gia-be ở Ga-la-át hay điều dân Phi-li-tin đã làm cho Sau-lơ,
[11] When the residents of Jabesh Gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul,

[12] וַיָּקוּמוּ כָּל־אִישׁ חַיִל וַיֵּלְכוּ כָל־הַלַּיְלָה וַיִּקְחוּ אֶת־גְּוִיַּת שָׁאוּל וְאֵת גְּוִיֹּת בָּנָיו מֵחוֹמַת בֵּית שָׁן וַיָּבֹאוּ יָבֵשָׁה וַיִּשְׂרְפוּ אֹתָם שָׁם ׃

[12] thì những người dõng sĩ trong bọn đứng dậy, đi trọn đêm, gỡ lấy xác của Sau-lơ và của con trai người khỏi tường thành Bết-san; rồi họ trở về Gia-be, thiêu các thây tại đó.
[12] all their warriors set out and traveled throughout the night. They took Saul’s corpse and the corpses of his sons from the city wall of Beth Shan and went to Jabesh, where they burned them.

[13] וַיִּקְחוּ אֶת־עַצְמֹתֵיהֶם וַיִּקְבְּרוּ תַחַת־הָאֶשֶׁל בְּיָבֵשָׁה וַיָּצֻמוּ שִׁבְעַת יָמִים ׃ פ

[13] lấy cốt của họ mà chôn dưới cây liễu xủ tơ, ở gần Gia-be, và kiêng ăn trong bảy ngày.
[13] They took the bones and buried them under the tamarisk tree at Jabesh; then they fasted for seven days.
